Pricing your trees and harvesting options.

Once I've seen your woodlot, you may have a few harvest options available. Since it is free, use my experience, education and expertise to help you decide what type of harvest is right for you. Regardless of the type of harvest,  we use the current hardwood green lumber quarterly report for each species of tree per board foot and their respective log grade as a base to work up your estimate. Additional money is then added to this estimate based on the percentage of your timber containing trees that fit into any individual specialized markets. For over twenty five years we have developed relationships with many of these special markets and they give us a competitive edge and a sure fire way to maximize your gains.

Select cut.

Individual trees are identified, measured, scaled for board foot quantity, appraised for grade quality, tallied, and priced. It is  clearly marked for cutting by painting.  (click slideshow above.)

Diameter cut.

A specific diameter is determined and trees that are of that diameter or larger are harvested. Saw timber by definition is at least 12" (twelve inches) diameter measured at breast height (dbh). Be careful of the logger that quotes a price by using a diameter of "on the stump". This may include smaller trees not defined as saw timber but as "pole timber". The removal of pole timber can be devastating to your woodlot's future growth and quality.

Clear cutting.

This picture speakes for itself. The clearcut utilizes many specialty markets and can provide the greatest return or perhaps cost you money depending on the existing timber .

Salvage cuts.

If you are losing your ash due to the emerald ash borer or perhaps your oaks seem to be dying from oak wilt, yet maybe you have had recent blow down,  I might suggest a salvage cut.
